About: The Green Humphead Parrotfish is the largest species of parrotfish. It can grow up to 4.3 feet and weight 101 lbs. The parrotfish comes in a limited variety of colors, from olive to greenish and metallic grey. Unlike juveniles, adults only carry the bulbous head. They are native to a wide range of countries including: Australia, French Polynesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Palau and Papua New Guinea. They live in shoals of 75 individuals. Their diet includes coral and algae from the sea-floor. The fish use its head to ram against the coral and break it into smaller pieces. Next they use their beak-like teeth to grind its food and release the algae. In addition to their large size they also have a relatively long lifespan. Living up to 40 years old.
