Palau is a place well known for its rich biodiversity, including hundreds of both plants and animals. It has the most plants species within the Micronesia boundary, many of which are endemic to Palau.
While this tropical island destination contains multiple forest types including mangroves and swamps, the most special are the tropical moist forests which cover most of the landscape. Tropical moist forests are becoming increasingly rare in tropical locations due to changing habitat and human threats that cause destruction. The volcanic matter covering the larger Palau islands creates a rich growth environment, suitable for a thriving plant world. The forests are not confined to the larger spaces, however. The limestone based Rock Islands are also packed with mini tropical rainforest, including a large species selection. |
